The Shin-Nagata Neighborhood

Shin-Nagata is a down-to-earth part of western Kobe, a few stops from the city center:

The 18-meter Tetsujin 28-go robot statue stands in Wakamatsu Park, a short walk from JR Shin-Nagata Station.
Nagata is the home of sobameshi (fried noodles and rice) and bokkake (slow-simmered beef tendon and konjac) — try them at local okonomiyaki shops.
Harborland and Chinatown (Nankinmachi) are a few stops east on the JR line, and Suma Beach is a 30-minute walk.
Nagata Shrine, one of Kobe's oldest shrines, is also in Nagata-ku.
